Recycling Programs

The Accounts Program is designed to facilitate fundraising efforts,whether for a school, group, yourself or any cause. It works like a bank deposit, except the deposits are recyclables that can be donated by anyone who wishes to support your cause. All deposits made under your name are recorded then cashed once a month. To open an account pick up an application form from our office,or download it by clicking here, and mail or fax it to us.

Organizations, such as schools, churches, etc. can raise money through their recyclables with the help of urban miners. How it works is the organization collects the recyclables and their designated “recycling buddy” picks it up. The refunds are shared. Half goes to the buddy picking up and delivering the recyclables, and the other half goes to the organization’s account program. And, if you need some quick and easy instructions about what and how to recycle, we can arrange this too. The Green West Oakland Program (GWOP) is a triple bottom line program designed for social, economic and environmental profit. It partners representative Recycling Stewards with participating neighborhoods with the goal of benefitting residents and Recycling Stewards alike from the rewards of recycling and composting, as listed below:

Social Profit: Social profits stem from partnerships established between Recycling Stewards and designated neighbors where both stand to benefit from:

• the security of a known and trusted green neighbor
• the security of a supportive community
• the benefit of a healthier environment: less toxic soils and cleaner air (as detailed below.)
• the security of a safer neighborhood
• the benefit of a more beautiful, greener and healthier neighborhood: each year Alliance Recycling will donate 100 trees to be planted in the top 10 producing neighborhoods.
• the security of having toxic free soils where you can safely grow your gardens, and where your children can play without risk to their health: each month Green West Oakland will organize the refurbishing of the property soils of the top producing residences.

Economic Profit: Economic profits result from work opportunities - that is, more than 1,500 new positions in the West Oakland community. This would include:

• Nearly 1,500 Recycling Steward independent contractor positions
• Undetermined number of independent contractor landscaping positions
• Income potential of $30K+
• Social welfare benefits

• Lower electric bills: from the shade trees can provide
• Increased property value: gained from a safer neighborhood, as well as by making properties less toxic, and more aesthetic.

Environmental Profit: Environmental profits include:

• Soil stewardship which removes toxic, ecologically demanding chemicals from food production.
