in their words

"Alliance Recycling is one of the few business community members that step up to the plate and truly give a lending hand to residents of West Oakland. Its business provides security and constancy for the downtrodden, as well as the untitled, un-heroed entrepreneurs that make substantial contributions to our society."

"West Oakland needs a green agenda and the beginning of that is to seriously look at recycling. As an art provider our goal is to imbue the importance of recycling and conservation in what we do. Alliance Recycling is an important contributor to the community. It provides invaluable services to the community at large, as well as to local residents who benefit from the income opportunity. Their clients are exemplary conservationist who provide a great service to our community through their hard labor - they should be supported, not shunned."

"I think it is important to keep Alliance Recycling Recycling Center in this area and to support its growth in making West Oakland a better, "Greener", safer place to live. It is well known that there are a few people who say that this facility should be closed down because of the type of people that come to Alliance: according to them these people are not "positive or desirable". They feel that this area should be developed into a better, "more desirable" neighborhood, to attract more wealth and keeping their property value up. And they won't stop at any cost to let it be known that these people are not welcome in their new neighborhood. What they fail to realize is that they are the ones who came to a neighborhood of working class people, who are doing a job, not causing trouble. In today's economy unemployment is at its highest and people are finding new ways to work. And that's where Alliance Recycling comes in. They provide a means to an income for people who are willing to get up and clean the streets, and collect discarded recyclable materials. So, when these new comers come into West Oakland and see a man or a woman pushing a shopping cart to Alliance Recycling, and they think that they might be undesirable, what they are missing is that these people are doing a service that should be commended instead of looked down upon. They don't see the unity, the bonding, self-sufficiency, and the state of pride in making Oakland cleaner and "Greener". They don't care that Alliance is providing them a source of income. They fail to realize that there is a bigger picture, and the bigger picture is that if there was no Alliance and the community worker by their side, they would have to do the work themselves, and if you don't separate the recyclables from the trash, the city might fine you, like San Francisco. So, instead of working against Alliance Recycling you should be supporting their effort in providing an income source for many people in the city of West Oakland and the surrounding areas."
